Welcome to the International Scientific Symposium Horizons of Economic Research in a Global Context, hosted by the Doctoral School of Economic Sciences, „Constantin Brâncuși” University of Târgu Jiu, Romania.

The symposium brings together PhD students, early-career researchers and experts to present original work, exchange ideas and receive constructive feedback. We welcome innovative and methodologically rigorous contributions addressing today’s key economic challenges: digital transformation, sustainability and evolving public policies.

Join us on 16 May 2026, in hybrid format (onsite in Târgu Jiu and online), for international networking, interdisciplinary collaboration and research that supports evidence-based solutions.

About the Symposium

The International Scientific Symposium: Horizons of Economic Research in a Global Context marks the first edition of an academic event initiated by the Doctoral School of Economic Sciences at „Constantin Brâncuși” University of Târgu Jiu, Romania. Our ambition is to develop the symposium into a long-term tradition and a recognized platform for PhD students, researchers and experts from diverse institutions and countries.

The symposium focuses on advancing contemporary economic research that informs both theory and practice. It welcomes contributions addressing key economic topics such as economic development and competitiveness, productivity and innovation, digital economy and business transformation, public economics and policy evaluation, sustainable and circular economy, regional and urban development, labor markets and social inclusion, as well as interdisciplinary approaches connected to governance and societal resilience.

By encouraging rigorous methods and constructive debate, the symposium aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, strengthen international academic networks, and support evidence-based solutions for a more sustainable and inclusive future.

To encourage broad participation and strengthen our international academic network, no participation fee will be charged for the first edition of the symposium.

The working language of the symposium is English.

Call for Papers | International Scientific Symposium 2026
“Horizons of Economic Research in a Global Context”

The International Scientific Symposium 2026 Horizons of Economic Research in a Global Context is primarily dedicated to doctoral and postdoctoral students, providing an academic forum for presenting research outcomes, engaging in constructive discussion and strengthening scholarly networks. Contributions from academics, practitioners and researchers at all career stages are also welcome.

Authors are invited to submit an extended abstract for presentation and to join a vibrant and growing community of innovators and thought leaders in economic research. All submissions received through the call will be peer-reviewed and evaluated based on originality, research depth, accuracy, and relevance to the symposium theme. Full paper submission (optional) and publication opportunities will be communicated after abstract acceptance and/or following the symposium.

Important dates

To ensure a smooth review and coordination process, authors are kindly asked to observe the timeline below. Abstracts will be evaluated on a rolling basis, and acceptance decisions will be communicated shortly after the submission deadline.

Publish Your Research and Maximize Its Impact

All accepted and registered submissions to the International Scientific Symposium 2026 – Horizons of Economic Research in a Global Context benefit from the publication opportunities outlined below:

1) Book of Abstracts (ISSN)

All accepted and registered abstracts will be published in the Symposium Book of Abstracts, with an ISSN. The Abstract Book will be made available to participants around the symposium date.

2) Partner Journal Publication 

(Full Papers – Peer Reviewed)

After the symposium, authors of accepted abstracts who have completed registration may be invited to submit an optional full paper for consideration in partner journals

Full papers will be evaluated according to each journal’s editorial scope, formatting requirements, and independent peer-review procedure (e.g., double-blind review where applicable, revisions, and final editorial decision). 

Publication is therefore conditional upon successful completion of the journal review and acceptance process, and timelines may vary.

Detailed instructions and submission guidelines for full papers (including formatting and journal options) will be communicated to authors after the symposium.

Author Guidelines

Please prepare your abstract using the official template (download button available next to these guidelines) and submit it for review by the Scientific Committee. If you will present online, please use the online presentation template provided for download. For poster sessions, please use the poster template, also available for download here.

Evaluation Process

All submissions are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process. The review considers, among other criteria: topic relevance, structure and coherence, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, academic writing quality, originality and contribution, adequacy of references, clarity of results, and compliance with the required format.
Accepted and registered contributions will be included in the Book of Abstracts (with ISSN).
After the Symposium, authors of accepted contributions may be invited to submit a full paper to the partner journals. Please note that any journal submission will be subject to the journal’s own scope, author guidelines, and peer-review process, and acceptance for presentation at the Symposium does not guarantee publication.

Academic Ethics

Submissions must present original and previously unpublished work. The Symposium upholds strict standards of academic integrity; therefore, plagiarism in any form is not tolerated. Any submission identified as plagiarized will be rejected and removed from the evaluation/publication process.

Oral Presentation Guidelines

Oral presentations should last 10–15 minutes (including discussion). Please prepare your slides using the official presentation template (additional slides may be added as needed). Presentations will be delivered via the Symposium’s online platform (e.g., Zoom or an equivalent system); presenters are kindly asked to join early to verify the technical setup and ensure a smooth transition between sessions.
